Roadside: Dancing in the Rain

A roadside attraction I'd love to see, especially on a rainy day.

The song in my head now: Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind." Here are numerous artists performing the classic.

Wave: Art Restored

Driving up PCH last weekend, I spotted a new American Apparel shop. Yep, there's another one (everywhere you turn it seems, just like Starbuck's). But news via Racked LA: the store is in the same space that once housed a surf shop, with a wave mural above it by a surfer and surfboard shaper, and American Apparel commissioned the artist to restore the mural. Good nod to history. (Image from Racked LA).

Roadside: Street Art by Shark Toof

Photo taken on Ocean Front Walk in Venice, CA.

I like the cat in the hat. I also love cats that play the keyboard, like this web star:

Roadside: Hippos

Photo taken in Glendale, CA. I've seen gnomes, flamingos, and deer, but this is the first time I've seen hippos in a yard.

Roadside Double-Take: Acne Worship?

Photo taken in Venice of the Hare Krishna temple. The site for an Acne denim pop-up store? A ploy to get pimply teens to come in for a miracle cure?

Sign: Multi-Purpose Store

Photo taken near Downtown, Los Angeles. One side books, one side body oils? Wonder what kinds of books.

Byrne's Roadside

The always-amazing Boing Boing links to a creepy roadside photo taken by the always-amazing David Byrne. As it's a roadside shot, I have "Road to Nowhere" by the Talking Heads stuck in my head; here is Byrne performing it live:

Exercise in Progress

The road work sign reads: "Exercise in Progress." (Photo was taken while I was driving and I'm too careful a driver to take my eyes off the road, so this was the best shot I could get.) Exercise?
